Safety starts with understanding what we collect and share. Here is exactly what MetaScan does with your information, in plain language — the same disclosure you'd see on an app store listing.
We never sell your data and never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Account info, health & fitness info, app activity and diagnostics — only what the features you use require.
All traffic uses HTTPS/TLS, and your records are protected at rest with per-account access rules.
You can delete your account and all associated data from your profile at any time.
Details
Collected: Email address, name (if provided), Google sign-in identifier.
Why: To create your account, sign you in and keep your data tied to you.
Collected: Goal, age, sex, height, weight, conditions, allergens, fasting sessions, moods, sleep, energy and water logs.
Why: To grade foods against your profile, personalize safety warnings and refeed plans, and chart your journey.
Collected: Live camera frames are processed on your device to read barcodes. No photo or video is uploaded or stored.
Why: Barcode scanning. The camera only runs while the scanner screen is open.
Collected: Scan history (barcode, product name, grade), fasting history, and anonymous flyer/QR campaign hits (referrer, browser user agent).
Why: To show your recent scans and fasts, and to measure which promo materials bring people to the app.
Collected: Your notification permission choice. Milestone reminders are scheduled on your device.
Why: To nudge you at ketosis, autophagy, 24h/48h/60h/72h and before your fast window closes.
Collected: When you scan, the barcode number (and your language preference) is sent to the Open Food Facts product databases. No account details are sent with it.
Why: To fetch product ingredients and nutrition in your language.
Security & your control
- Data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with row-level security — each account can only read its own records.
- Scan history is automatically purged after 7 days.
- We do not run third-party ad or tracking SDKs.
- You can revoke camera and notification permissions at any time in your device settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
- MetaScan is a wellness and education tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat anything and works alongside any possible medicinal protocol — talk to your doctor before extended fasting or changing medication.
Deleting your account removes your profile, scans, fasts, moods and journey logs. You can also clear individual scans from the Label Scanner screen.
